Jane’s Stories Press Foundation (JSPF) announces that nominations are open for the 2025 Clara Johnson Award for Women’s Literature (CJA). This award will be bestowed to a book published in 2024 which bears the attributes of the award’s namesake, and its winner shall be awarded a $500 cash prize. The 2025 Clara Johnson Award Ceremony will be held in October or November of 2025
The Jane’s Stories Board will choose the finalists from a field nominated by editors, publishers, authors, booksellers, librarians, and readers. The award intends to promote remarkable women writers and the publishers of their progressive works which are by, for, and about women.
An author may receive the 2025 award for a specific work of prose, or for a body of work of fiction or non-fiction prose-published within the year of 2024, that is January through December of 2024. The Clara Johnson Award for Women’s Literature will take into consideration literary works by women (born or identified as women).
The award is open to literary prose of all genres. This includes fiction, nonfiction, creative nonfiction, or memoir. Genre-bending is encouraged. Works that are defined as erotica or pornography will be excluded from judging. Literature which denigrates any group or category of people will be eliminated. AI generated text will not be accepted.
